The Calming Duo FAQs
Why is skin barrier support so important for sensitive skin?
The skin barrier is the outermost layer of the skin, it's role is to retain moisture, protect against external stressors, and help the skin stay balanced and comfortable. When it’s working well, skin feels steady and resilient. When it’s compromised, even simple routines can feel challenging.
Supporting the skin barrier is about reducing stress and reinforcing what the skin naturally needs, both during recovery and long-term care.
What makes this cream different from a regular moisturiser?
Most moisturisers sit on top of the skin, this one works differently. The combination of ceramides, cholesterol, and fatty acids mirrors the skin’s own natural lipid structure, essentially giving the barrier back what it’s lost. Ad-resyl®, a natural active clinically studied for sensitive and compromised skin, supports barrier integrity and helps skin find lasting comfort from within. It’s less about adding a layer and more about replenishing essential lipids naturally present in the skin barrier.
The serum includes Xylitol (prebiotic), what benefits does it have for my skin?
Xylitol is a naturally derived prebiotic ingredient sourced from sustainably harvested birch and beech wood. In this formula we use GENENCARE® XL — a clinically studied form of Xylitol that works by nourishing the beneficial bacteria that live on your skin, helping to maintain a healthy, balanced microbiome. It also supports skin barrier integrity by improving the lipid layer composition, and helps the skin retain moisture by acting as a humectant. The result is skin that feels more balanced, hydrated, and resilient over time. *Based on in vitro studies provided by IFF (GENENCARE® XL)
The serum includes Ectoin® natural, what benefits does it have for my skin?
Ectoin® natural is a 100% natural amino acid derivative, originally discovered as the survival molecule of microorganisms living in extreme environments. It works by forming a protective hydration shell around skin cells, stabilising membranes, reducing inflammation, and supporting the skin's own repair mechanisms.
Clinically studied for sensitive, compromised, and eczema-prone skin, it has been shown to increase skin hydration by up to 200%, reduce moisture loss by up to 28%, and visibly calm redness by up to 38% — with efficacy comparable to hydrocortisone, without the side effects. *Based on in vitro, ex vivo and in vivo studies, including independent research, compiled by bitop AG.
